Hello Homebrew Clubs!

Registration is now OPEN for the upcoming Sower’s Cup homebrew competition hosted by the Lincoln Lagers Homebrew Club in Lincoln, Nebraska. Our annual BJCP-sanctioned event will be held on October 14th & 15th and is an official qualifying competition for the High Plains Award and Midwest Home Brewer Of The Year circuits. Please share this with your club members and encourage them to 'Like' our competition page on Facebook so they can get updates on entry registration, drop-off locations, and live results from the award banquet.

This year we have raised the maximum entries cap to 500! Nebraska is home to a large pool of BJCP judges, and we take pride in offering high quality scoresheets with useful feedback. Contestants can be assured that every entry will be scored by two or more judges, with at least one of the judges holding the rank of BJCP Certified or higher. We will accept entries in all of the 2015 BJCP beer, mead, and cider style categories, and will provide feedback using written BJCP score sheets (not the NHC check-box). We award Best Of Show prizes in beer, mead, and cider.

Our 2016 special contest is "Smoke In The Air (Thanks A Lot, Kansas!)" - an open-category Best Damn Beer-style contest for any and all smoked beers. It can involve any other flavor or adjunct as well - oak, fruit, bacteria, whatever else - That is up to you, but the judges will be looking for distinct smoke character, a well-executed flavor balance, and good underlying beer quality.

We're excited to feature a Specialty Beer Scale-Up Opportunity with Boiler Brewing Co., otherwise known as the new home of Tim Thomssen, 2014 & 2015 High Plains Brewer Of The Year, 2014 & 2015 Midwest Home Brewer Of The Year, and 2014 & 2015 MCAB Grand Champion. All entries that advance to BOS in categories 21, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, and 34 will automatically be considered for the Scale-Up Winner, judged by Tim and other Boiler Brewing staff. The winner gets to scale their recipe up on Tim's 10 barrel system, and help brew the beer with him right here in Lincoln, NE.

Are you available to attend? The Sowers Cup is a fun event for all our volunteers. We're putting a special focus this year on educational opportunities relevant to homebrewers and beer judges, with TWO special guest speakers: Curt Stock (2005 Mead Maker Of The Year and Co-Founder, St. Paul Homebrew Club) and Amanda Burkemper (BJCP Assistant Education Director, Kansas City Bier Meisters officer, and past KCBM homebrew competition organizer). Our Saturday itinerary includes three brewer education sessions on these topics: Mead Making, BJCP Education and Training Resources, and Homebrew Club Participation and Leadership. We'd love to have you join us in Lincoln, mark your calendar now for the weekend of October 14th & 15th!

The fun includes:

- Friday night Homebrewers' Social Hour and FastRack Speed Challenge

- Raffles for awesome big-ticket prizes from our sponsors

- Commemorative Glassware courtesy of Empyrean Brewing Co.

- Delicious meals provided at each judging round

- Exclusive ticketed multi-course banquet dinner and beer pairing

- Saturday Night Awards ceremony

We'd love to have participation from your club members!

Cheers,
